During Wednesday’s Coronavirus Task Force briefing at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump said he will invoke the Defense Production Act for use against the COVID-19 pandemic, putting in place a law that will allow the U.S. government to accelerate production of needed equipment.

He also said a hospital ship will be sent to hard-hit New York to help people affected by the contagion, and that a second hospital ship will be deployed to the West Coast.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence addressed the “mutual consensual” decision to temporarily close the U.S.-Canada border to non-essential travel because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Trump then fielded questions from reporters from using the term “Chinese virus” to the economic aid to relieve workers during this time of uncertainty.
