De Sfinx is een bijzonder beeld met de Piramide van Cheops op de achtergrond.
Het reusachtige hoofd is 5 meter hoog. Het oor alleen is al 1.37 meter hoog. Ik bleef foto`s van de sfinx nemen …
De Sfinx werd meerdere malen bedolven onder het zand en een deel ervan is verwoest.
In zijn klauwen houdt hij een stenen tafel waarop de droom van Toetmosis IV staat beschreven. In de droom vraagt de Sfinx of de prins hem op wil graven.
Als dank zou de Sfinx hem belonen met de dubbele kroon van Egypte en aldus geschiedde.
De leeuw met het mensenhoofd geeft de deskundigen veel stof tot nadenken.
Men ging er van uit dat de Sfinx een beeltenis van Koning Chafre moest voorstellen maar nu vermoedt men dat het beeld veel ouder is.
