Tim Ley’s Phoenix Lights Version 0.5 — Special Effects

CG generated in 2010.

Fly around the 3D object that can be seen in the real time simulation :

Blending effect with the color of the sky.
Thickness is 1 meter. Might be even less since witnesses couldn’t see any thickness.
No transparency.
Environment map from Ley’s home.
Takes into account absorption of specs of light on the surface of the convex meniscus.
Simulates smear/distortion effects between the arms of the V.
Doesn’t simulate mirage effects (duct), under and over.
Does not represent the bulge on the top, that was seen when the object was leaving.
The streaming particles effect inside the light is much too exaggerated and very probably does not represent what was seen. As long as the witnesses do not state what’s wrong, in the simulation, I cannot correct.for that.
Wingspan 460m (1500f)
Boeing 747-400 for scale comparison.
Shows a rendering technique that gives to the lights, an orange tinge, only when seen from the edge.
