Old Mother Shipton’s Cave and Knaresborough

Views of the River Nidd and the Viaduct. (The Viaduct is now protected and is a grade II listed monument ) The Castle, has had many occupiers over the years; Richard II is believed to have been imprisoned, in the Kings Chamber.
Kings have stayed there whilst hunting in Knaresborough Forest. In 1616 James I gave it to his son Charles. Historians believe the Castle must have been built by Henry I or Rufus.
The petrifying well is England’s oldest visitor attraction. Visitors have payed to view the “Dripping Well” which then became known as the “Dropping Well” since 1630, although people had been visiting for many years before that.
