The Federal Government and Oil Dependency

NCLC 203: Inquiry to Action
George Mason University

RATIONALE FOR INTERVENTION:

As citizens of the this country, we have moral obligation to protect and preserve the health of this nation and the environment. We are consuming oil resources at an unprecedented rate, and if we continue to do so we will lose this resource. Our need for oil forces our country into unstable relationships with the Middle East that forces us into unwanted conflict. Offshore drilling in the United States has proven that it can be disastrous to the health of the environment and animals. The federal companies needs to be more involved when it comes to big oil companies, who are motivated by money and power. With the recent veto of the Keystone Pipeline, Obama showed that he could effect change. However with more recent attempts to bring the Keystone pipeline up for voting again, we need more support from the citizens to ensure this pipeline and future pipelines won’t be constructed.
