The Cage Witches Prison St Osyth
These are a short series of video clips I recorded recently at the The Cage Witches Prison in the village of St Osyth. In the 14th and 15th century women and children, accused of witchcraft or possession, were chained up in a prison cell before being executed by hanging or burning at the stake. It is thought some of them, including the children, may have been buried under the cells. Having been there, I think anything is possible when it comes to the Cage. I don’t condone or encourage disturbing the dead – it’s a dangerous past time and you need to know what you’re doing – but this place is extraordinary and provides empirical evidence for a lot of myth and superstition. I’ve been trained as a soul rescuer and an exorcist and I felt extremely uncomfortable.
