Scientific Research – Health Benefits of Sahaja Yoga Meditation

Although the original goal of Yoga and Meditation is spiritual growth, important therapeutic side effects on physical and mental health have attracted medical research across the world.

The state of thoughtless awareness experienced in Sahaja Yoga has thus been shown to elicit important beneficial changes in the body and the brain and has therapeutic effects on a wide range of disease processes.

In this video Professor Katya Rubia, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London presents an overview of Scientific Research into the health benefits of Sahaja Yoga Meditation, which is always offered free of charge.

A repeat follow up seminar presentation is due to take place on Tuesday December 10th 2013 in Ealing Town Hall in West London at 7.30pm

All are welcome to attend.

The presentation reviews the effects of Sahaja Yoga Meditation on bodily measures of stress, on the brain, and on mental and physical health in normal people and in people with physical or mental disorders.

Research on bodily functions shows that Sahaja Yoga Meditation reduces physiological measures of stress and activates the parasympathetic nervous system that relaxes and restores body functions. Research on the brain shows that Sahaja Yoga Meditation in fact leads to a different brain state in that it activates areas in the brain that are important for deep concentration and positive emotions, thus leading to this subjective state of thoughtless awareness and joy that people experience in Meditation (Sat-Chit-Ananda in Sanskrit).
