Did a 16th Century pharmacist predict the future?
1550, Provence, France: Michel de Nostredame – or Nostradamus – makes the first of over 6,000 visions of the future.
1555: He publishes The Prophecies, a book of one thousand quatrains, or four line poems. Each contains a vision of the future, including… The Great Fire of London, the rise of Hitler, the atomic bomb, the Kennedy assassinations and 9/11.
So great are his seeing powers that he finds himself under the protection of Queen Catherine, whose husband, Henry II has his death accurately foretold by Nostradamus. Nostradamus rises to become counsellor and physician to her son, Prince, later King Charles IX.
1 June, 1565: Nostradamus makes his final prediction: ‘You will not find me alive at sunrise’. He is found dead the following morning.
Five hundred years later, Nostradamus’s The Prophecies remains in print as his visions become reality.
The future had been foretold in stunning detail. Or has it?

Nostradamus’s vague, cryptic quatrains, or poems, are open to interpretation and translation errors as well as being rewritten and even invented out of thin air. Within the context of the 16th century they make sense as shrouded criticisms of politicians and the Catholic church. His famed 1555 prediction of The Great Fire of London is actually a clear commentary on Queen Mary of England’s massacre of Protestant heretics (those with religious view different to her own) the previous year.
His naming of Hitler, who would not be born for another 400 years, relies on believing the word Hister is a mis-spelling… It is not, it is an alternative name for the River Danube…
As for 9/11, if we filter out the after the event edited translations and fakes:
…we find no mention of airplanes, twin towers, explosions or even New York. Like all of Nostradamus’s so called predictions, they are twisted and tweaked by believers after the events have occurred.
