It’s Insane! Moon Conspiracy Theories

A leisurely walk in the moonlight has been an endearing pleasure. While taking your walk, have you wondered how when man first landed on the moon, he left behind a trail of questions. True, most of us celebrated this unique feat, but some weren’t amazed and weaved absurd conspiracy theories, to say the least. The most sensational theory is that the moon landings never really occurred and they were staged by NASA!

Top Moon Conspiracy Theories

It’s been decades since Neil Armstrong’s first few steps on the moon’s surface raised a storm in our drawing rooms and the pubs. However, conspiracy theories about whether he truly ever walked on the moon still survive. We have picked the most sensational conspiracy theories about the moon and we tell you why they make no sense at all.

The Apollo Moon Landings Were Staged By NASA

Around 5% of all Americans opine that the moon landings never occurred as they are convinced that they were faked. Some usual questions that the believers of conspiracy theory come up with include:

Why do the photos that show the moonwalkers don’t have any stars?

Why is the US flag fluttering?

Yet another point that they find questionable is that while there are footprints, why are there no prints left behind by the Lander?

Here are the answers. Just as on our planet, owing to the daylight on the moon’s surface, the stars are washed out in the photos. The American flag is seen fluttering as there was a metal rod sewn into it to create the impression that the wind is making it move. Finally, the modules have left no impressions as their weight is more evenly distributed than the astronauts’ weight in their boots was.

Again, some argue that you need water or moisture of any other kind in the soil so footprints are left behind. The answer to that is no, you don’t. Due to the friction between them, dust particles can hold various shapes. Additionally, when the lunar module landed on the surface, there were no deep craters since the moon is made up of rocks that are densely packed beneath the surface dust.

The Moon Has Random Things On It

A certain photograph captured in February 1967 by the Lunar Orbiter shows “something” rising into the sky a mile high from the moon’s surface. Richard Hoagland, a NASA conspiracy theorist concluded that the structure is called “Shard” and went on to argue that there can be no geological phenomenon to explain it. Therefore, he says that it was artificially erected.

However, it turned out later that Hoagland had adjusted the contrast and used smoothing filters to make a spot of light the image had to turn into his “Shard.” Hold on, there’s more. A photo taken during the 1971 Apollo moonwalk shows a bright light right above David Scott, the astronaut’s head. However, it’s only a lens flare that caused the flutter.

The Moon Has Aliens

Another outlandish conspiracy theory suggests that the moon is a space station controlled by aliens to monitor happenings on our planet. Scott C. Waring claims to have found two photos in the NASA Image Atlas of 2013, which were removed since.

He wrote that the very fact that the photos were deleted proves beyond doubt that NASA removed evidence of the existence of a UFO. It’s also 100% proof of his theory that the moon isn’t real but an alien space station. He continues with his bizarre statements and says that the moon’s surface is covered in debris so that it appears like a natural celestial body while in reality, it’s a gate that opens up to let spaceships fly in and out.

After analyzing the photo of the Giordano Bruno crater that lies on the moon’s far side, the self-proclaimed UFO researcher also claimed that the moon’s dark side houses an “alien city.” He said that he found destroyed or damaged structures there that might be even a hundred million years old! On a YouTube video, he says that some of these structures had reflective roofs and some looked somewhat like ships.

NASA is dismissive of these claims of there being objects on the moon and calls them to mind tricks. They can also be explained as “pareidolia,” a psychological phenomenon that has you spotting the strangest of things at places where they simply can’t exist, for example seeing a bear’s image in a cloud.

Oh My! The Moon Is Made Of Cheese

This one takes the cake. No, the moon isn’t made of cheese despite the wildest stretch of your imagination. Supposing it was indeed made of cheese, there must have been a gigantic cow grazing in the solar system somewhere.  And with hundreds of satellites and telescopes keeping a constant eye on the cosmic world, we would’ve surely spotted the cow by now. Well then, the least we talk about this madness, the better.

Supermoons Cause Disasters

A supermoon occurs when our friendly satellite is the closest to our planet. True, it does cause a stronger gravitational pull on the earth, which does have an impact on how the oceans behave. The seas do get a bit wild because of the gravitational pull, but that’s all that there is to it.

There’s no scientific evidence to suggest that supermoons are the reason behind tsunamis and earthquakes. Studies carried out by USGS scientists haven’t found anything substantial at all that could corroborate this argument. Supermoons should cause no panic at all.

Conclusion

The good old moon with its dim pristine light has gifted us many pleasant evenings. Yet, with a man having landed on the moon, it still retains an aura of mystery. It’s at the center of conspiracy theories, all of them bizarre to say the least. While some conspiracy theorists say that Neil Armstrong never made it to the moon, many others feel that the moon is an alien space station. These people have only added to the aura of the moon which we hope lives on despite man coming to know more and more about our humble satellite.
