Meteor Shower Fireball Origins Update Comet ISON/Siding Spring 2014 Year of Meteor Storms

Besides the numerous meteor showers in 2014 to be enjoyed and respected, there are new sources for inbound cometary dust and debris and potentials for extremely active showers this year or rare singular events. Earth has been passing through the debris trail of Comet ISON and has a few more days to go and reminds us of the source of fireballs, meteorites and meteor storms. Although ISON’s has not produced a grand shower YET as was forecasted as a possiblity, there have been reports of meteorites coming from and near the area of Constellation LEO and some fireball tracking systems have revealed bursts of activity since January 12th when Earth entered the orbital trail of the hyperbolic comet. A future report will document sightings of “ISONIDS” or non Meteor shower related sightings. Though we reported no known meteor shower has ever come from a hyperbolic comet in previous videos and the possibility was thrilling and demanded some respect, a one time visiting comet to our Solar System passing Earth’s orbit is VERY newsworthy, and there was no way to rule out the possibility of something new as Comets and Meteor showers are constantly surprising us. Yet, slow moving dust from ISON could become visible in years to come as is the nature of these events!

Due to the skepticism and strife from some for reporting on this potential event, and in light of the activity of Comet Siding Spring and other comets this year, it is very important to consider the origins of meteor showers and why we get random meteor strikes by the hundreds EVERY DAY on Earth. This video considers the many annual and periodic meteor showers and identifies their origins to put this subject in perspective. Obviously many people have no clue as to why we have Meteor Showers, and much less that they mostly come from comets, Minor Planets and asteroids. Fireballs are reported every day by the dozens and hundreds around the world. What happened to ISON reminds us of why there are random and chaotic fireballs events with no established stream and how they can happen years from now – because we are surrounded by the remains of obliterated celestial objects.

Enjoy and thanks for watching and subscribing. Music credit at the end. One thing is for sure: we have no shortage of fireballs, meteors and events to watch in the skies above us!
