Astrobiology studies the origin of life on Earth, and whether life exists in other parts of the Universe. The first cells would have needed organic molecules to form, just like Legos that you put together to build a house, in which the Legos are the organic molecules crucial for life, and the house is the cell. Some of these building blocks of life have an extra-terrestrial source from meteorites and comets.
Zita Martins studies how meteorites and comets contributed to the origin of life in our planet and potentially in other part of the Universe.

A Astrobiologia estuda a origem da vida na Terra, e se existe vida noutras partes do Universo. As primeiras células terão necessitado de moléculas orgânicas para se formarem, um pouco como legos que se juntam para construir uma casa, em que os legos são as moléculas orgânicas fundamentais para a vida, e a casinha é a célula. Alguns desses Legos tiveram uma origem extraterrestre vinda de meteoritos e cometas.
